Review methodology

Our testing steps

Our testing team follows the same sequence for every featured product, and we record each step in a dated test note.

  • Retail order. We buy the item at retail and log the order date, dispatch date, delivery time and the total we paid, including shipping.

  • Packaging notes. We photograph the parcel and the inner packaging, record creasing, moisture damage or missing tags, and note whether the item arrived folded, bagged or boxed.

  • Seam and print inspection. We check stitch density, loose threads, collar and cuff joins, crest alignment, print edges and any heat-sealed panels under a light box.

  • Fit checks. Each garment is tried on across a range of body sizes recorded in our fit log, and we measure chest, length, sleeve and hem against the published size chart.

  • Wash-and-wear cycles. Five washes with a standard detergent and air drying, with a colour and shape check after each cycle. The review records the water temperature and unit, detergent and drying conditions, together with any departures from the care instructions.

  • Support agent timing. Where a retailer offers live support, we send one sizing question and one returns question and log the first-response time for each.

  • Comparison table. We score the item against two or three comparable products already on our shelf, on price, build, fit and finish.

Scores use a five-point scale: 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 adequate, 2 poor, 1 very poor. A supplier specification change prompts a review of the affected comparison. Any new wear or wash test is identified by its date and conditions.

Comparison scope

Identify size, cut, fabric description and care instructions. Record garment measurements, stitching, prints and hardware condition. Washing claims need the cycles, temperature, detergent and drying method actually used. Distinguish collector condition from clothing performance. Replica-cut or fan-style descriptions do not prove licensing; authorization claims need reliable evidence. One garment's results do not guarantee every size or design.

The review identifies the sample, dates, conditions and any steps omitted. A hands-on claim requires documented inspection or use; desk research is labelled. Scoring uses the complete 1-to-5 scale with the criteria and evidence explained, including unfavorable findings and missing information.
