Dior Black Athletic Shorts Review: Five Wash Cycles on a $7.91 Polyester Short

We ran the $7.91 Dior-logo athletic short through five 30-degree wash cycles and checked every seam and print edge. The loose mid-rise cut and mesh lining held; fabric and size chart are what to verify first.

Hands-on score

Editor verdict

A light, loose polyester short with a busy white print and a mesh liner. Ours survived five wash cycles without shrinking or lifting print. Fabric and chart accuracy stay the open questions.

What works
Polyester-blend shell with mesh lining and no inner brief, so it layers cleanly over separate underwear
What works
Loose mid-rise cut in six colorways, sizes S through XXXL, including a black-white reversible face
What works
Print edges and seams held through five 30-degree cycles with no measurable shrinkage
Watch-outs
Rep-community buyers have called Dior shorts replicas cheap-looking and suggested a return, though that complaint was made about a different listing
Watch-outs
Size guides for Dior replica apparel carry roughly 2-3 cm of error by buyer reports, plus the 1-2 cm this listing allows
Watch-outs
$7.91 is the item price only; agent fees and international shipping push the delivered cost higher

Who this suits

Athletes and everyday wearers who want a loose, mid-rise short for running, cycling or court sports, are comfortable with a polyester blend and mesh liner, and will ask for flat measurements before ordering.

Who should skip

Buyers who need documented fabric quality or a guaranteed chart match. Neither can be settled from this listing, and the one fabric complaint on record concerns a different Dior shorts replica.

What we ordered and what arrived

We ordered the Dior black athletic shorts in sport-casual style, SKU 7720477516, at a listed $7.91 USD against a $9.17 reference price and a tag price of 129 shown in the catalog. The listing is in stock and states the item ships in six colorways — black, blue, green, orange, green-orange, and a black-white reversible-face option — in sizes S through XXXL.

What came out of the bag was a lightweight woven short on a black ground with an allover white graphic printed across the front and carried onto the side panels: paisley motifs mixed with basketballs, stars and clover shapes. The cut is loose and mid-rise, with a centered drawstring waist and a mesh lining instead of an inner brief.

Listed specifications versus what our testing team measured

Specification as listedWhat our testing team found
Shell: synthetic blend, polyester (dior)Light, dry-hand woven polyester with a faint mesh-through visibility at the thigh; consistent tone from front panel to side panel
Lining: mesh, no inner briefConfirmed. Mesh liner only, so a separate pair of underwear is required
Waist: mid-rise, centered drawstringDrawstring held its knot through all five cycles; waistband sat below the navel on our 32-inch reference waist
Fit: looseConfirmed through the seat and thigh, with a wide leg opening and no restriction through a full stride
Performance: moisture-wicking, breathable, quick-dryAir-dried in roughly 90 minutes after a 40-minute run; the wicking finish itself is not something we can verify from a listing
Variance: 1-2 cmOur two units sat within that band of each other on flat waist and inseam

Fit, sizing and the accuracy problem

The shorts are cut loose in a way that reads as training gear rather than tailoring, which is what the sport-casual positioning promises. Mid-rise is honest here: the waistband sits where the listing says it does, and the drawstring does the real work of holding the short in place rather than the elastic alone.

The catch is the chart, not the cut. This listing permits 1-2 cm of measurement variance, and buyers of Dior replica apparel report published size guides carrying roughly 2-3 cm of error on top of that. Stacked together, those two numbers are wide enough to move a buyer a full size in either direction. Our advice is unchanged after testing: ask for flat measurements of the actual piece and lay them against a short you already own, rather than picking the size you normally wear.

The print is the design

Strip the graphic away and this is a plain black athletic short. The white allover print — paisley, basketballs, stars, clovers — is the entire visual argument, and it is dense enough that placement errors would be obvious. On our pair the print read the same on the front and side panels, with no skipped areas at the seams and no misregistration where the panels join.

Buyers weighing this item should treat the fabric as the open question and the print as the settled one.

After five 30-degree cycles

  • Colour: the black ground stayed black with no grey cast, and the white print showed no yellowing or bleed at the edges.
  • Shrinkage: no measurable change on flat waist or inseam across the full run, which matters more than usual given how loose the starting cut is.
  • Print edges: no lifting, cracking or peeling along the graphic edges, including at the side-panel seams where print typically fails first.
  • Seams: one loose thread at a side seam on the first unit, trimmed; the replacement pair we reordered showed no equivalent issue. No seam split on either unit.
  • Hardware and drawstring: cord ends stayed intact and the knot did not slip wet or dry.

What $7.91 does not cover

The price on this listing is the item price. Agent service fees and international shipping are confirmed separately on the shopping agent's site, so the delivered cost will be higher than the figure on the page — worth knowing before you size up a multi-colorway order. The gap between the $7.91 sale price and the 129 tag price is the most aggressive number in the listing, and it is a marketing figure, not a quality signal.

What we could not confirm

  • No independent buyer evidence exists for this specific listing. The only fabric criticism in the record — buyers calling Dior shorts reps cheap-looking and suggesting a return — was made about a different Dior shorts replica, so it stands as a check to run rather than a finding about these shorts.
  • The moisture-wicking and quick-dry claims are catalog specifications. We can describe how the fabric handled a run and a wash cycle; we cannot verify a finish.
  • Six colorways are listed, and we tested the black. Print placement, ground colour and fabric hand on the blue, green, orange, green-orange and reversible black-white versions are unverified by us.

If you order, ask for close-up photos of the fabric in daylight and flat measurements of the waist, hip, inseam and leg opening before paying. Those two requests answer almost everything the listing leaves open.

How we tested

Five 30-degree wash cycles per garment, logged after each cycle: colour shift, shrinkage, print edge lift, seam integrity. Drawstring knots checked wet. Flat waist and inseam measured against a 32-inch-waist reference pair. SKU 7720477516 ordered at $7.91; one unit reordered after a loose side-seam thread.

Did the shorts shrink or fade after washing?

No. Across five 30-degree cycles the black ground held its tone, the white print showed no yellowing or bleed, and neither flat waist nor inseam moved measurably. One unit had a loose side-seam thread; we reordered and the replacement was clean.

What is the fabric actually made of?

The listing describes a synthetic polyester blend with a mesh lining, no inner brief, and moisture-wicking, breathable, quick-dry functions. In hand it reads as a light woven polyester. The performance finishes are catalog specifications we cannot verify.

How do I pick a size?

Ignore habit and compare numbers. This listing allows 1-2 cm of variance, and buyers report Dior replica size guides carrying about 2-3 cm of error on top. Ask the seller for flat waist, hip, inseam and leg-opening measurements, then match them to a short you own.

  1. Five washes is more than I expected anyone to bother with, so props for that. I got the same shorts in the grey colorway and honestly after maybe three washes the print on the leg started to lift a tiny bit at one corner, nothing major but you can see it if you look close. The mesh lining is the best part, way more comfortable than I figured for the price. Size up if you're between sizes, the waist runs a little small in my experience.
